Every year, 13 million tonnes of plastic leaks into our oceans. That's a literal 'truckload' every single minute. It is estimated that there are as many as 5.25 trillion pieces of plastic waste in the ocean, of which 260,000 tonnes floats on the surface. This year, Oris are introducing the Aquis Date Upcycle, which is a new take on a current model, with a dial made from recycled PET plastic as part of their mission to bring change for the better. As well as showing what can be done when you recycle these materials, the thought behind this watch is to encourage people to do their bit for the environment and even take part in organised 'Clean Up Days' to help keep our oceans clear and clean for future generations. The watch itself is truly special. The pattern seen on the dial is created randomly during the recycling process meaning that no two dials look the same. Essentially, each piece is unique. This dial is housed in a 36.5mm, multi-piece stainless steel case with a uni-directional bezel and scratch resistant ceramic grey insert, topped with domed sapphire glass which is coated on the inside with anti reflective material. Looking beyond the dial, the watch shares all the same features as the original Aquis Date models. It has a stainless steel bracelet with clasp extension system, a protected screw down security crown and a Swiss made, automatic mechanical movement with a power reserve of 38 hours. That's not all. The presentation box supplied with the watch, is also made from recycled PET plastic by #tide ocean material®, a new partner for Oris. Because of all this, the Aquis Date Upcycle is more than just a watch, it's an assertion of the future of our planet and that together, we can make a difference.
